The Maple Syrup Diet - weight Loss from fasting.
|
| |
The theory
The Maple Syrup diet involves replacing normal food for a liquid only diet of water, lemon juice, with maple and palm tree syrup, spiced up with cayenne pepper or ginger. The Maple Syrup diet is also known as the Lemon Detox.
The plan
In essence, this is a drastic fast. It is followed for 5-7 days and no longer. Some advocates will use it as a twice yearly detox, along with one day a week the rest of the year.
Pros
It will result in weight loss, but that just comes about from fasting and restricting calories - you could do that with water and there is nothing special about drinking what is basically lemon and sugar.
Cons
Chances are that the weight will pile back on as soon as the fast is finished as usually happens with crash dieting.
It is a nutritional disaster area and could be harmful. It could appeal to those with eating disorders.
